Landscape Architecture Students Win Tennessee Student ASLA Design Awards

KNOXVILLE -- Landscape Architecture students Nathan Oliver, Chris Chandler, Ezekiel Cooper and Valerie Friedmann are honored with Tennessee Student ASLA Design Awards.

Under the direction of studio instructor, Ken McCown, Oliver, Chandler and Cooper are commended for their efforts on a rehabilitation project of the Vulcan Materials site along the Tennessee River in the West Side District of Chattanooga. The three students transformed the project area into remediation wetlands from the existing gravel at the old site.

For "Vulcan Stormwater Park" (below),  the students won the Award of Excellence in the Student Awards General Design Category. Valerie Friedmann, too, placed in the Student Awards General Design Category, winning a Merit Award for her project, "Center City Park." Associate Professor Tracy Moir-McClean oversaw Friedmann's design studio.

The students will accept their awards on October 21 at the Tennessee American Society of Landscape Architects Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee.
